Case No 2    A Boy or a Girl?

Tom and Mary have three sons: Johnny, Jimmy and Billy. 

They wish to have a daughter. Mary becomes pregnant. What is the probability that her next baby will be a girl?

Tom and Mary wanted to know if they are going to have a boy or a girl.  There are two procedures used to find out whether the fetus is a girl or a boy.  One is called Ultrasound, and the other procedure is called Amniocentesis.  Mary decided to have an amniocentesis since it is more accurate.  After two weeks, the results came back. Tom and Mary were thrilled to know that were going to have a baby girl.  What did the technician see under the microscope to determine if Mary was going to have either a boy or a girl?

What combination of sex chromosomes did the fetus have?
